Auto Insurance Companies and What They Know
It is important to many of us to think that our private lives are just that “private”, but little do we know about who knows what about us. Some government organizations know more about you than you even remember yourself. Do you remember all your old addresses or all the credit cards you’ve had in your life? It’s not likely that you do, unless you’ve kept every document you’ve ever signed and every check you’ve ever written. Not everyone knows this, but your automobile insurance company may know more about you than the IRS or the United States government. Your General Auto Insurance company not only knows your life’s driving history, but they also have access to your past credit records.
Your auto insurance company uses all of our past information to decide whether or not they’re going to issue an insurance policy. They even know if we have ever had a time in our lives when we paid our bills late, another thing we aren’t likely to remember. Auto Insurance Companies vary across the nation in the area of how they calculate the rates they charge for auto insurance. The one thing they all seem to agree on is that a person with a good credit rating for a long period of time is more likely to be a more responsible driver and have less accidents.
Insurance companies also view a person’s motor vehicle record as an indicator of the risk value that should be placed on that driver. If a driver does not include on his application for auto insurance any past traffic citations, or any auto accidents they were involved in, they could be charged with fraud. Obviously, they would also be denied insurance or have their insurance policy canceled, and at the very least their rates would greatly increase. So, now that you know that the insurance companies have access to all of your past records, you should realize that it is better to be truthful from the beginning. If you are, they are more likely to work with you to try and get you insurance coverage since they know how important it is to be fully protected.
