A good knife should last virtually forever and will be something that many people will use every single day. You don’t necessarily need to buy an expensive brand: buying a good knife from a restaurant supply store may be both affordable and very usable. You might also give them a copper saucepan which will heat more quickly and easily than any other pan they they have likely ever used before!
