Casual jobs with the US Census
If you live in the US, you probably already know that the federal government is gearing up to run the once a decade census next year. There have already been reports on the news about it, and you’ll be seeing a lot more in 2010.
What you may not realize is that, as part of the enormous undertaking, the Census bureau hires tons of casual and temporary staff to actually perform the census. These census jobs are primarily field work.
Tons of enumerators (fancy name for census field staff) are needed to actually track down the census forms that aren’t turned in on time. They also follow up with any issues or questions citizens have about the forms. oh, and they also make sure that the mapping data is accurate. For example, does a particular street address really exist? If it doesn’t, that would explain why no census form was returned!
If you are looking for a part-time job just to tie you over during the next year, a census job might just work for you. The jobs are always in your local area so you don’t have to travel too far and that’s always important for part-time work. I think it makes a lot of sense in this economy to look for part-time work that you don’t have to commit to for years to come. Because we all know that things will get better over time and when that day comes you may want to return to considering starting your own business.
