History of Morgan Silver Dollars
The Morgan silver dollar is considered one of the most popular US silver dollars in existence. It all started when the Camstock Lode silver strike was discovered in Nevada in late 1850’s. The amount of silver was huge and therefore the government passed the Bland-Allison Act that deputed the Treasury to purchase silver weighing 2 to 4 troy ounces every month. The purchased silver was converted to American dollar coins that saw circulation for 26 years between 1878 and 1904 and once again later for another year in 1921.

The Dollars get their name from their designer George Morgan. It is estimated that although more than 500 million Morgan coins were coined between 1878 and 1974, a large majority of these dollars never left the Mint until 1960.

Investment in Morgan Silver Dollars

Leroy C. Van Allen and A. G Mallis published a book listing all the die varieties of the Morgan dollars around four decades ago. The listing introduced subcategories into the Morgan Silver Dollars that were until now categorized only according to the years in which they were minted.

Certain grades of Morgan dollars became very rare and therefore very precious after VAMs (acronym for Van Allen and Mallis) came into the picture. Some of these rare coins sell for as high as a couple of hundred thousand dollars and are used for large investments. Examples of such rare coins are 1889-C, 1893-S and coins minted in the year 1895.

Before you buy Morgan Silver Dollars, be very sure about the genuineness of the specimen that you purchase as many cases of forgery and tampering have been reported. Also, make sure that you do your homework thoroughly and know which coins are actually precious and which ones are worth for only a few dollars.

A pocket watch is not only an great feat of early time keeping technology; it is a wonderful masterpiece for one to admire. As a person who collects many a pocket watch, I have learned quite a bit about these devices. I have gained much knowledge about the intricate mechanics of pocket watch movement. I have learned about various types of these watches available in the market today, both old and modern. There are many antique and vintage pocket watches and amazing auctions around the globe for people who want to pocket one of these hand-crafted wonders. Many seem prohibitively expensive and others are quite affordable. For the avid collector, price is certainly a concern, but is not first and foremost, as the historical and sentimental values far outweigh the monetary issue.

Pocket watches are a fascinating thing to learn about. While it might sound like a boring subject, at first, the early history, railroad era and advent of Swiss components can certainly pique one’s interest. Add to that the beautifully skilled artistry, and you find out that the pocket watch is not such a mundane subject after all.

Maurice Jones-Drew Rookie Card

The diminutive running back of the Jacksonville Jaguars is the illustrious Maurice Jones-Drew. I say diminutive tongue in cheek, because what he lacks in height he makes up in impressive body size. Dudes legs are impressive and a force to be reckoned with. Given his first few years in the league, the Maurice Jones-Drew rookie card is sure to be a sought after commodity for years to come.

Overshadowed when he entered the NFL by the poster boy Reggie Bush, Jones-Drew has done nothing but produce since stepping on the NFL football field. While Reggie Bush has dealt with injuries and unmet expectations (his recent Super Bowl ring aside) Maurice has done nothing but produce since day 1. His 15 touchdowns his rookie year made people stand up and take notice.

What they noticed was an extremely powerful runner that also had blazing speed. Seen often breaking large plays from seemingly nothing his rookie year it wasn’t unheard of for him to run a few touchdowns in a game. The fact that he was able to produce so heavily given that he was splitting time with a likely Hall of Fame running back in Fred Taylor is all the more impressive. Jones-Drew has made the league step up and take notice.

While running backs often succumb to a sophomore slump in terms of their stats, Jones-Drew had no such step back in his 2^nd year as he ended with another 9 touchdowns to go with over 1,100 yards from scrimmage. Given that this is by far his least productive touchdown year you can see why people are hankering to find his football cards for sale throughout the nation.

In 2008 he was back to his old productive self and punched the ball in another 14 times and stepped up with a combined almost 1,400 yards in rushing and receiving. The time had finally come for the Jaguars to say goodbye to the talented Fred Taylor and feature MJD. Thankfully for Jacksonville he didn’t disappoint and ended the 2009, his first as a feature and sole back in the NFL, with 16 touchdowns and over 1,700 all purpose yards. The sky is the limit for Maurice and football card collectors should stand up and take notice.

People collect the weirdest things. Glass is dangerous and especially glass made hundreds of years ago which will be brittle with age and is difficult to clean and can give the most severe cuts if one is not careful when handling it. Research what you are going to collect beforehand and consider the after effects like storage (if collectibles are large) and the potential dangers (hygienic and handling). My advice is to start with postal stamps which is nice and safe except for the paper cuts. Licking stamps can be sore if you cut your tongue. So treat your hobby with care.
