When traveling in the Mediterranean there are some island areas that one simply should not miss. After traveling down the Italian peninsula, the delights islands like Malta offer are a refreshing break from the hustle and bustle of big cities like Rome or Florence. Getting there is relatively easy, there are both ferries and airlines that run the route for cheap. Good tropical islands in the Mediterranean outside of Greece can be hard to come by, so the tiny island nation of Malta is a blessing.

Only 400,000 people live spread among three islands, so you will have a lot of time to bask in the island’s easygoing lifestyle. The islands offer cobalt blue seascapes, ancient ruins, and plenty of opportunities to eat great food, snorkel, and scuba dive. The weather is pleasant and mild year round, with the high season falling between June and August. Maltese is the official language, but many speak English, and a good tropical island like Malta is the perfect ending to a trip through Italy.

Arizona is one of the world’s premier golf destinations. Arizona’s golf courses are very spectacular and diverse. There are more than 300 courses across the state. They have traditional style courses, along with more difficult courses.

One of the favorite places to golf in Arizona is located at Whirlwind Golf Club’s Cattail golf course in Chandler, Arizona. It has a reputation as a “playable golf course”. Most people find this course to be very enjoyable and easy to work on golf swing fundamentals.

Another fine golf course is the Five-star Trilogy Golf Club at Vistancia in Peoria, Arizona, which is a suburb of Phoenix. You don’t realize how challenging this course is until you are driving away and then you think “wow, I really played that course”. The green fees are more reasonable than some of the other courses.

If you like pot bunkers than Arizona State University’s Karsten Golf Course is the one for you. This is definitely a Pete Dye golf course. Even at a par 70, every golfer loves this course. It has everything a die-hard golfer could want including hills, curves and even railroad ties.

We can’t forget We-ko-pa, which opened in 2001 in Scottsdale, Arizona. It is now called Cholla Course and is ranked the 35th best public course in the country.

Prescott Golf and Country Club gets many votes for being the best for catering to women and seniors.

Of course, we can’t forget one of the few truly original golf experiences left in Scottsdale, and that is Talking Stick Golf Club. No, it’s not a terrifically challenging course, but it is down right fun. The best part is the beautiful mountain view setting. Sometimes the view is so breath-taking, you actually forget about your golf, but only for a moment.

Studying abroad can be a big choice for someone to make, and packing is one of the hardest parts of the whole experience. A lot of students make the mistake of bringing over a massive amount of gear in big suitcases, which does not lend itself to the obligatory traveling after the end of term. Taking travel backpacks is a much better solution, and will save a lot of hassle when someone decides to start traveling or wants to take some trips during their school vacation periods.

A big travel backpack can get all the way up to 70 liters, which is more than enough space for the average study abroad student. They almost always over pack, and do not account for buying clothes or other items during their time abroad. Half the fun of studying abroad is bringing home exotic styles and cool objects, so having a lot of space is essential Buying a large travel backpack to take initially is the best choice for a student that wants to travel but does not want the hassle of a suitcase.

Study abroad programs are excellent cultural exchanges for young students. They are able to learn a new language, broaden their horizons, and experience how citizens of another country live. It is an eye opening experience. A large part of this experience is travel, and when the students are traveling they need to make sure that they are covered for healthcare, because the study abroad demographic is known for drinking. For this reason, travel insurance that crosses borders if very important for students to have.

Study abroad programs often require certain travel insurance packages, though some also give the option of sticking with a family’s previous insurance plan. Be careful to read the exact wording of the policy the school offers, because clauses and special cases can create very large problems once they occur in real life. A good travel insurance policy will cover all bases, including doctor visits, prescriptions, emergency care, and long-term treatments if need be. Making sure to do due diligence in the beginning can save a lot of hassle in the end.

Every year it astonishes me anew.

Sweden is covered with small lakes and trees. In fact, Stockholm is called the Venice of the North because it has so much water. Southern Sweden, Stockholm and around Stockholm, is quite warm in the summer and doesn’t have the bitter cold winters of the north.

The north of Sweden is greener, but still has many lakes, rivers and ponds. Because of the heavy snowfall during the winter months, the land is bursting with trees, lakes and flowers. Another reason there is such phenomenal plant growth in the north is that the sun shines nearly 23 hours a day.

Northern Sweden has beautiful forrests to hike and numerous fishing holes. Additionally, berries grow wild and it is completely legal to pick as many as you want, even on private property. You’ll find blueberries and raspberries aplenty through the countryside.

Umea Sweden is the largest town in the northern area and has a lovely country feel, even though its population is around 110,000.

One of my favorite departments in the South of France is the Pyrenees Orientales and the Roussillon in Languedoc Roussillon! This French Catalan area is in the deep south, borders Spain and is a very popular hub for Languedoc tourism. The city of Perpignan is, in my opinion, a gem of a small city. The young woman are foxy and stylish in that Spanish way and the shopping available reflects the trendy nature of the city.

Restaurants and bars abound, but the old city centre is small enough that you don’t feel overwhelmed. It is easy to get a feel and sense of the layout of the place after just a weekend. It’s a particularly entertaining city if you happen to roll into town on a day that the local rugby team, the Catalan Dragons, are playing.

Outside of the city there are some lovely little villages set against the dramatic majesty of the Canigou, a towering mountain range. And then along the coasts are some atmospheric fishing ports, like Collioure and Port Vendres, where you will find some fine seafood.

This weekend I went over to Point Pleasant NJ and visited the boardwalk. There was a lot going on there but the best part of the visit was getting over to Jenks. Of course Jenkinsons owns almost anything that has any value along the boardwalk.

Anyway, the place is a bar and they have live music just about every night. When we got there the live music had not started yet. Once the show did start there was a lot of dancing going on. The band was some local covers act. They were Ok but they at least had a lot of energy. The other thing they had going for them was to be able to play so many popular songs. The crowd ate that up.

I must have danced, on and off, for close to three hours. By the time we were ready to go I was actually getting tired. Fortunately we stayed in Point Pleasant so I could get a good nights sleep without having to drive back north.

There are all kinds of contests and events that happen there. One of the best is the costume party scene. There is a sexiest costume contest that I can’t miss each year. There is just a lot to appreciate about these places along the boardwalk.

I spent a few days in Seaside Heights New Jersey last week. I was also able to stop by the crabbing and fishing dock on Barnegat Bay. There was nobody on the dock and I just spent some time walking around, looking in the water and sitting on one of the benches there. It was so pleasant to sit and look out over the bit of the bay you can see from the dock. There were a lot of birds flying around, as there seem to have always been at this place.

When I was walking the dock and looking in the water I saw some blue claw crabs swimming around. Just some little guys, as it is early in the season obviously. It was cool to see them though and it brought back a lot of memories of when I was a kid.

I used to go crabbing with my grandfather in the summer and we always had a great time. We used traps and sometimes just a drop line. It was exciting to try to get them into a bushel once they were caught. The hope was to fill the bushel with crabs and then we would have them for supper at home. The crabs were very unpredictable and although a quick transfer helped, they could get a little nuts when you tried to get them in the bushel. It seemed you were always inches away from getting pinched by one of their claws. Every once in awhile, you would get it. Which made it all the more so that you did not want to have it happen again.

Just thinking about those memories made the trip to Seaside Heights way worth the trouble and expense of getting and staying there.

Napa is the heart of the Napa Valley and Wine Country. Viticulture and tourism are what keeps Napa’s wheels turning. The benefit of these things for the locals of Napa is great food and wine. There are many world class restaurants within walking distance of each other in Downtown Napa as well as wine tasting rooms. The restaurants vary from legendary burgers and pizza to upscale vegetarian cuisine, all from renowned chefs. The wine tasting rooms allow you to taste many different varietals of wine from lots of different wineries. These tasting rooms are owned and operated by local wineries, which gives you the opportunity to taste almost everything that the Napa Valley has to offer in just a few stops.

There is probably more to this region than most people first think about. True enough, the wine is what makes this great place tick. But, there are also other things about the food culture that are great assets to the community. Many of the local chefs and wineries also rely on the local farmers for their fresh organic ingredients to serve in their restaurants. Not only does this add to the wonderful flavor of the dishes, but it supports the local economy as well.

Yes, much of the wine market is commercialized. There is no doubt about this fact. But, by enlisting the local community, these wineries, both large and small do make a difference. This is one area where the notion of the ‘green revolution’ and sustainable living are not lost. You wouldn’t think anything less, being that it is California, after all. Northern California, no less!

So, if you’re planning a vacation and want to enjoy a place like no other, Napa is one of the finest tourist destinations in the world, come see for yourself! We’d love to see you!
