Digital Camcorders In High Definition
There are many features to consider when shopping for a digital video camcorder. Two options are whether it is a high definition camcorder or not and what type of medium is the footage recorded to. If you plan on watching your videos on a high definition TV, then you probably want to look for a high definition digital camcorders. The best HD digital video camcorders record finely detailed 1080 line images. The standard definition digital video camcorder can only record about 480 lines in an image. While HD camcorders do offer a better picture than a standard definition camcorder, they do come with a heftier price tag, anywhere from $100 to $1000 more.
Some types of medium that digital camcorders can record to include MiniDV, MiniDVD, Flash Memory, and Hard Disk Memory. MiniDV are miniature digital videocassettes that can be recorded and erased. This is an outdated option 
because the footage can only be recorded to a VHS tape on a VCR. A MiniDVD is easy to record on and can be played back in DVD players. They are easy to record and navigate on, with no rewinding or fast forwarding.
It depends on the type of discs you buy, as to whether the videos can be erased and rerecorded or not. A drawback is that the picture quality is not as good as you watch the footage on a bigger screen like a tv. Flash Memory records to internal flash memory, memory sticks, SD SDHD cards. You can get longer recording times on these than on the two previous options. Flash Memory also allows for smaller video cameras because the medium is very small. A downfall is that you must download the footage to a computer to be able to see or use it.
A Hard Disk memory is where the footage is recorded to a hard disk drive inside the camera. You can get the most available memory with this option. You can easily edit the videos in camera before transferring to the computer. A hard disk drive digital video camcorder will give you the largest capacities for recording videos. The drawback is that they can be a lot more expensive. When shopping for a digital video camcorder there are many options to consider. High definition versus standard definition and the recording medium are just two of the many features to look for. It is suggested that you at least look at some high definition camcorder reviews before you make any kind of decision.
