DLP vs Plasma TVs
So looking at DLP vs Plasma TVs, which is the best? Everyone obviously has their own opinion on this, because if one was clearly the top there would only be one.
It is obviously a bit hard for many to understand the main differences, because they seem so comparable. The reality is, there are some subtle differences between the do, so here is a short review of the two most important variables:
#1) Image quality
DLPs tend to have slightly worse screen quality then Plasmas, but they also maintain their sharpness for longer. While Plasma might start out with better quality, the gap will narrow over time because they are slightly less durable. However, Plasmas are improving in this regard.
Also, the DLPs tend to do better in higher elevations, so if you live in the mountains you might want to consider them. Overall, the edge here goes to the Plasma.
#2) Width
DLPs are wider than their Plasma counterparts, but they are also less viewable from the side. This negates their advantage in this department. Although they have improved, in many instances you still have to be facing the screen head on to see it. However, overall the advantage goes to the DLP.
Conclusion
They both have their advantages and disadvantages. In terms of overall quality of image and viewing angles, the LCD gets the edge, although the gap is not quite as wide as it once was. However, DLPs tend to keep their quality over a slightly longer time period.
Also, DLPs are better in terms of overall width, and they are slightly more reliable and less expensive. So the bottom line is, if you want to save money and sacrifice a little in image quality, then the DLP is for you.
However, if you want the best of the best in terms of screen image, and do not mind paying for it, then go with the Plasma. You may find good plasma tv deals online so keep your eyes open.
