European Ice Hockey Equipment and Uniforms
A lot of us hockey fans based in North America are used to seeing hockey players wear certain hockey equipment and for the most part hockey player uniforms over here conform with one another. The same goes for the hockey players in Europe too, however the equipment that these players wear has quite a different look than that of the players in Canada and the United States of America.
For starters the hockey jerseys, helmets, pants, socks and gloves are all plastered with advertisements in Europe, this makes for a very busy looking uniform and it also makes it more difficult to tell team jerseys apart at a quick glance. In North America it seems that ice hockey clubs prefer to go with the more traditional and simplistic look as opposed to going the corporate route in terms of getting paid by advertisers to put patches and stickers on their gear. I personally prefer the look of hockey uniforms in North America and overtime I see European hockey players wearing their uniforms I get taken aback.
Not only are the European hockey players uniforms quite a bit different, but the brands that they wear are pretty much exclusive to the Europeans. This is not to say that there aren’t players over here in America or Canada that wear these brands, but it is just more of a rarity. Jofa hockey helmets for example are almost the only helmet that Europeans wear, and Tackla hockey pants are incredibly popular among professional and national teams a like in Europe. Here in North America most hockey players wear brands like CCM, Bauer and RBK.
While I must say that I think it is unusual how the hockey equipment and uniforms that players wear differ so much from country to country, the style of hockey played on both ends of the world are very much similar. Sure their are some subtle differences between hockey players here and there, but the National Hockey League has turn into a bit of a hybrid of all hockey styles for all positions and that is what makes super fans like me watch the great game of hockey.
