Home Decor
Hey, this one is a broad topic—wouldn’t you agree? Let’s go ahead and define what “home decor” really is. It is, essentially anything that adds to the beauty of the aesthetics of your home, as well as potentially having an actual function. Let’s take a brief glance at the different departments of décor types and uses:
-
Almost any furniture is decor: armoires, love seats, ottomans, recliners and chaise lounges are just a few examples.
-
Light sources are plenty: They can include floor lamps, chandeliers, Tiffany lamps, outdoor steel/brass fixtures, and wall sconces. All that is, in reality, just scratching the surface of options.
-
Window coverings and treatments: you can mix-and-match various blinds and shades with practically any type of curtain, drapery, valance and/or cornice that you see fit.
-
Artwork: quite simply, it is also “illimité”. The kind of art should be based-off your personality, and the frames/borders should complement it perfectly.
-
Bathroom decor: This runs the gamut from designer fixtures and plumbing hardware to custom cabinets and vanities.
That list is, of course, is but only a sampling of the avenues of home decor. There also exists a wealth of exciting themes. Some that come to mind are the old-world European flavor, the antebellum-plantation grandeur, the Southwestern-style ranch home look, the contemporary and timeless design of art-deco inspired homes, and the simplistic, minimalist-look—common to many Asian decors, as well as most contemporary styles (to a certain degree, that is).
Who says you can’t have the best of more than one culture? Some of the greatest homes ever built—like Buckingham Palace, the famous Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina, and the world-renowned Breakers Mansion (Newport): they all incorporate a wealth of the previously mentioned styles, as well as many lesser-known decor choices.
As a matter of fact, mixtures of different cultures are a great idea. How about trying on a traditional Greek-look, combined with a Western European design motif? Does that not do it for you? Try out an Italian vineyard look, with hints of English-inspired ambiance (e.g. dark woods, furniture, floral patterns, fine china,…). Nonetheless, get creative and show-off your home with decor that fits you and that which will be pleasing to the eye and to guests.
