In a world of instant gratification, it is not surprising that when people go looking for credit repair, they look for instant credit repair. That is how companies offering such illegal strategies as credit file segregation are able to stay in business. People want fast results at any cost.
The reality is that there is no such thing as instant credit repair. But then you probably already knew that. Your credit did not get damaged overnight and you aren’t going to be able to repair it overnight. That isn’t to say that there aren’t strategies that you can implement for fix bad credit quickly. Let’s look at my top four strategies that you can use to fix credit fast!
- Get a parent or spouse to add you as an authorized user on a credit card that they have a low balance on. Ideally, find a card at least 5 years old.
- Call a company that you have an old collection account with and see if they would be willing to delete the account in exchange for payment in full. Just make sure that you get everything in writing prior to making a payment.
- Dispute incorrect information in your credit file. Key things to look for are negative accounts that are more than seven years from the true date of last activity and the credit limits on your credit cards. Both of these can have a major impact on your credit score.
- Pay off revolving debt. This is one of the fastest ways to improve your score quickly. Ideally pay your accounts down to below 25% of your total available credit line.
