Mediterranean Islands
When traveling in the Mediterranean there are some island areas that one simply should not miss. After traveling down the Italian peninsula, the delights islands like Malta offer are a refreshing break from the hustle and bustle of big cities like Rome or Florence. Getting there is relatively easy, there are both ferries and airlines that run the route for cheap. Good tropical islands in the Mediterranean outside of Greece can be hard to come by, so the tiny island nation of Malta is a blessing.
Only 400,000 people live spread among three islands, so you will have a lot of time to bask in the island’s easygoing lifestyle. The islands offer cobalt blue seascapes, ancient ruins, and plenty of opportunities to eat great food, snorkel, and scuba dive. The weather is pleasant and mild year round, with the high season falling between June and August. Maltese is the official language, but many speak English, and a good tropical island like Malta is the perfect ending to a trip through Italy.
