What Printer Stands to Avoid
There are a lot of printer stands available in the market. Some are designed for specific models of printers. An example of this will be those stands which are just made of a board and wheels. They are designed to hold printers that are already high enough for comfort. The wheels are only added for the purpose of mobility. On the other hand, there are some printer stands that can accommodate just about any printer. They are more like generic stands. However, whatever type of stands they are, there are some stands which you should avoid purchasing. We are not referring to the brand or make of the stands. We are referring more to their structure. Shortly, we will learn why we should avoid them.
Uncoated Stands
There are stands that do not have any paint or coating. It is necessary for these stands to have them so that their structure will be protected. If your stand is made of metal and unless it is stainless steel, moisture from the atmosphere will cause rusting and lessen the lifespan of your stand. What is most undesirable is that sometimes you are not aware when these things start to give in to the weight. If your printer is very heavy and your stand is already rusty, who knows how long it will hold. A printer stand should be able to last long despite the changes in the environment. Accidents like water spillage may cause long term damage if stands are not properly coated.
Single Purpose Stand
You should avoid printer stands that are only built for one purpose. In other words, you should avoid printers which are built to just hold printers. Some stands come in the height of a work desk and with an area small enough to accommodate one printer. If that is the case, you might as well buy a desk. If you buy a desk, you can not only put a printer on top of it, you can use it for other purposes as well. If they have drawers, then you can use it as a printer stand, a work desk and as a storage cabinet. You should learn to maximize your resources and buying printer stands that are uni-functional will only be a waste of money.
Plastic Stands
A printer stand should be able to hold heavy equipment and not just printers. The tendency for machines, especially when powered by electricity, is to build up heat. In some printers, the heat is dissipated from the bottom of the printer. If your stand is made up of plastic, there is a possibility that warping will occur. Add that to the effect of the weight of the printer and you will have a deformed stand. It is important that printer stands are made with the right material.
You may have more criteria when selecting a printer stand. Most selection of printer stands depends upon your preference. Just be sure to know which types to avoid.
