Protect Mail with Mailbox Insert
If you want to avoid becoming part of the statistics that show the number of people getting their identity stolen on the rise, then you will want to protect yourself. There are a lot of things you can do to do this such as shredding your mail that has personal information on it before throwing it out in the trash. Another thing you can do is get a locking mailbox insert. This is basically a box that you can lock which has a slot for the mailman to insert the mail into. Sure, someone can just take the box and try to break it open but most likely, they will just skip your house and go for an easier target. This may be too much for some people but as the saying goes, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
And, in the case of your identity, you can never be too safe. Even with the identity protection that you can get from insurance companies now, the majority only pay for your efforts to rebuild any damaged credit or direct financial loss. They will not pay you for the time it takes to research all of the ways in which the criminal damaged your name. There are countless ways that you probably do not even understand, unless you have the same type of criminal mind. Odds are, you don’t. This is why prevention is much better than fixing it after the fact.
While criminals that are interested in identity theft by stealing mail may not be the brightest group, the data that they do collect is what is valuable to larger groups or other organized crime rings. So, you are not just on the look out for some drugged-out user rummaging through your mail, they are just the tip of the iceberg as they say. Lock up your mailbox and make it harder for these crooks to harm your credit or damage you or your family’s identity.
