Remodel Attic
There are a few precautions people should take before deciding to remodel attic areas. The first precaution is to check for asbestos in the insulation of the attic. If this comes back clear, you can take steps to create weatherization for the area. Many older homes have large attic spaces that can easily be turned into an extra room. You may want to add some ceiling tiles to cover the rafters and add additional soundproofing to the room.
If the attic is not insulated, this will need to get done as well. There may not be adequate lighting for the room so contacting an electrician will be another item that will need to be done. You might also want to run a telephone or cable line up to the area depending on the kind of room you are creating. These attic spaces can be great rooms in which you can turn them into a home office or some type of craft room.
Some attic spaces are so roomy, that you could do some really in-depth remodeling and have it turned into your master suite. Depending upon current plumbing and electrical lines, you may be able to have it go quite smoothly. In some cases, it would just be too cost prohibitive to continue the project unless all things were lined up right.
A remodeled attic can allow for a great get-away space, or as discussed, some sort of hobby or craft room. In the colder winter months, an attic can be one of the warmer rooms in the house. This is, of course, if you’ve heeded the advice mentioned earlier and have it properly insulated. If this is the case, since heat rises, you may be able to find that perfect knitting room or knook to read a good book and have a cup of tea. With the availability of an attic space, you have many options for another usable room that many homeowners without attics simply will not have access to. Design it well and you can enjoy it for years to come.
