This news was not that unexpected given the downturn in the economy, not just in the UK, but all over the world. Argos has been hit hard by the weak pound against the dollar, and also by the increased manufacturing costs of it’s far east suppliers.

Although Argos is struggling, the release of the brand new argos catalogue this week may help to improve consumer spending. The catalogue launch will be a crucial time for all argos employees, who may be afraid for their jobs if the slump continues.

Many other high street operators are beginning to suffer as well, and whilst argos is struggling, so are the other companies in this sector. Profits are down, but at least argos is still making a profit, and so they should be able to continue trading.
