Magic Jack is a voip phone

You do not need to buy a special phone to use this service.  Any landline phone will do, even cordless phones.  They are the best because then you are not tied to your computer for making and receiving phone calls. Even an old style rotary phone can be used, although you cannot use it for dialing as you can with a touch tone phone.

The benefit of using a voice over internet protocol (VoIP) phone is that you save a bundle in phone line expenses.  It’s interesting how the phone and cable companies use that term – bundle – when they talk to you about trying to save you money.  In the end, these VoIP services will only expand as more and more of the world enters the high-speed internet community.

There are other players in the VoIP world.  Both Skype and Ooma are trying to make a name for themselves as well.  Skype definitely has a leg up on Ooma, the new kid on the block.  But, it will come down to usability and user support.  If either company finds their customer base dip, they may not be able to offer such free services.  There are advertising and basic fees that one must pay when using these various internet phone services.  However, when you compare the costs of these to your traditional phone or cable company prices and service, you can’t miss with the VoIP phone services like Magic Jack.
