I’ve lived in Sweden for 6 years now, and I cannot describe the sheer beauty of this country in the summertime. Every year it astonishes me anew.

Sweden is covered with small lakes and trees. In fact, Stockholm is called the Venice of the North because it has so much water. Southern Sweden, Stockholm and around Stockholm, is quite warm in the summer and doesn’t have the bitter cold winters of the north.

The north of Sweden is greener, but still has many lakes, rivers and ponds. Because of the heavy snowfall during the winter months, the land is bursting with trees, lakes and flowers. Another reason there is such phenomenal plant growth in the north is that the sun shines nearly 23 hours a day.

Northern Sweden has beautiful forrests to hike and numerous fishing holes. Additionally, berries grow wild and it is completely legal to pick as many as you want, even on private property. You’ll find blueberries and raspberries aplenty through the countryside.

Umea Sweden is the largest town in the northern area and has a lovely country feel, even though its population is around 110,000.
