Know Tennis Elbow Symptoms and How to Treat It
If you used your hands a lot and now the outer part of the elbow is painful and tender when you touch, it is very likely that you have injured the tendons on the elbow and are suffering from tennis elbow. You need not necessarily have played tennis to suffer from tennis elbow; this is a condition that is caused by injuring the elbow by overuse of the hand especially in repetitive movements. Since the elbow is a very sensitive and busy joint, it may take time to heal the damaged tendons. In the meantime the use of the injured hand should be restricted to prevent further damage.
There are other symptoms of tennis elbow that should stamp it that what you are suffering from is this condition and not some other serious condition like arthritis. This is an injury that happens when the hand is extensively and repetitively overused, so you should know it after undertaking a certain physical activity. However, it is advisable that you see a doctor for proper diagnosis and advice on how to handle the situation. As soon as start feeling the pain on the elbow, stop whatever activity may have caused it and rest the arm. Hold a pack of ice on the injured area to cool down the nerves, suppress the pain and quell inflammation.
There are a number of different tennis elbow cures that a doctor may subscribe or administer depending on the severity of the damage on the injured tendons. For small damages, a tennis elbow brace and some painkillers may do but if the tendons are severely damaged, the doctor may apply anti-inflammatory medications or comatose injections to quell the pain and prevent swelling and inflammation. You may not use the injured hand till it heals even for light gripping and lifting to avoid damaging the healing tendons.
