Urban Beekeeping For The Bee Enthusiast.
Is it possible to keep bees in an urban environment? The answer to that question is yes, it is. But before you put a beehive on your roof, or in your yard, check with your local regulations. In many urban environments there are specific laws about keeping bees.
You can keep a beehive in a small backyard or on a roof. In this case you will need to find honeybee hives for sale. There are many suppliers online of all kinds of beekeeping equipment, including beehives.
The other option is to keep bees indoors in an observation hive. These hives are like giant ant farms (except bees are cooler) and you keep them indoors. The bees leave through a tube that usually leaves through a window. I have seen these types of hives in museums many times, but they are sold on ebay and will work in an apartment or home as well.
Beekeeping in an urban environment is possible. Bees will fly up to four miles for their nectar to make the honey they need.
