The decor that you are going for may range from the eclectic to the classic refined look. When you use a wood wall clock, you are giving homage to that special older style and look of times gone by. You should be proud of this heritage because it is quite likely that your ancestors lived a similar way. Most antique wall clocks were built in times when telling the time was used for practical purposes out in the fields and farms. Now, their classic appearance can add that warm feel to your den or home office.
Let’s talk a little bit about the type of traditions that you can set forth with a wall clock of your own. Aside from the memories that it will bring up for you, think about what the kids or grandkids will remember. Just like how you might remember seeing one on your grandparent’s wall. This is something that I can recall from my grandparent’s home back in New York. I grew up there, but ended up moving out West when I was still a kid. Some of my earliest and fondest are actually inside my relatives’ homes back East. Honestly, it isn’t that I have dreams about their wall clock or how exquisite it was, I was just a kid after all. But, what I do remember is the overall charm of their homes.
My family history is that of an Italian heritage so maybe I’m a bit more fond of that type of old-world craftsmanship. I can just picture a skilled tradesman putting all those gears and brass fittings together just right inside that wooden case. The hand-painted lettering on the face of the clock all being the finishing touch on that beauty before shipping out.
So, I guess in the end, this is how wall clocks tell more than just the time you might expect from a clock. True enough, the clocks we buy now are more than likely manufactured and produced here at home. The individual craftsman are long gone, having been replaced by trained robotics. However, if you get an old wall clock that has some character, it will tell certainly give you more than the current time.
