Wine Has To Be Expensive To Be Good…And Other Wine Myths Debunked
Have you played with the idea of getting more involved with wine? You know learning about and trying different types of wine.
Have you been afraid to because you thought the ‘wine snobs’ would look down on you? Don’t worry, wine isn’t as snooty as it once was nowadays its all about what you like.
Here are some of the most common wine myths…debunked. Enjoy!
1) Good wine is expensive. Not true. Actually there is no one size fits all good wine. A good wine is one that you like, period.
2) Wine needs to breathe. That’s partially true. Many wines will have better flavor and aroma if they allowed to aerate, or add oxygen. But just taking out the cork won’t accomplish this since the bottle opening is too small. Just pour your wine in a wide mouth wine decanter or a glass prior to drinking.
3) You have to go through the ritual of smelling the cork. The idea is that you can tell by smelling the cork if the wine is good. If you want to be able to tell if the wine is any good…just drink it!
4) You have to have white wine with fish and red with meat. There is a reason for that and it has to do with combining the flavors of the wine with that of your meal, but a more important consideration is what you like best.
If you prefer red wine but you’re having fish for dinner than have red wine. It’s all about getting the most enjoyment out of your wine and if you’re forcing yourself to drink something you don’t really like than you won’t get the maximum enjoyment out of it.
5) You can’t store an opened bottle of wine in the refrigerator. Actually you can. Just put the cork back in and it should be fine for up to 3 days.
The bottom line is that wine can be an excellent ‘hobby’ . It can be very fun to find a new type of wine and share it with family and friends. Don’t worry about the ‘rules’ just find what you like and what you don’t like and enjoy the whole wine journey.
